More About The Tranquilizer
Going after our wildest dreams can be both exhilarating and scary. In order to protect us from the scary part, The Tranquilizer shows up. It makes us tired, forgetful, and encourages us to distract or numb out with things like TV or social media. Anything to avoid taking action and moving toward unfamiliar territory.
This can result in “forgetting” important things like asking for support, or even forgetting about your goal in its entirety. The Tranquilizer’s motto is “out of sight, out of mind.” Because if you’re too tired, zoned out or distracted to even think about your inner vision, does it still exist?
Spoiler — yes, it does.
Keep reading to learn what to do about it.

YOUR INNER WORK WITH THE TRANQUILIZER
The Tranquilizer is ultimately trying to keep you safe from the unknown. But, in trying to keep you safe, it’s also keeping you sheltered and stuck. It can feel like you’re getting in your own way. There’s an internal battle between what you want to do vs. what you’re actually doing. In this case, your inner work becomes about 4 components — awareness, compassion, accountability, and celebration.

Your inner work
1 — AWARENESS
Awareness is the first part of creating change. Start with identifying when The Tranquilizer is present. What does it feel like? What’s a tell-tale sign you’re numbing or distracting yourself? Remember, clarity creates space for choice.
2 — COMPASSION
Rather than punishing yourself for spending so much time on social media, watching TV, or other numbing strategies, practice showing yourself some compassion. How would you lovingly speak to a best friend if The Tranquilizer was present for them?
3— ACCOUNTABILITY
After the compassion comes the action. And because The Tranquilizer wants to keep you isolated and distracted, accountability is crucial. How can you enroll a friend, coach, or other accountability partner to support you in taking action?
4 — CELEBRATION
The Tranquilizer has told you over and over that it’s safer to be idle than move in the direction of your dreams. That’s why it’s essential to build evidence for the contrary — you’re safe, excited, and living in expansion when you go after what you want. Celebrate yourself after taking action, no matter how small. When you celebrate even the small wins, you build evidence for why it’s possible to keep going. ✨
